LONGBOAT TORONTO ISLAND 10K RACE ANNOUNCES MEN’S & WOMEN’S PRIZE TO TRAIN IN THE RIFT VALLEY, KENYA
8 juillet 2014

TORONTO, ON, July 7, 2014 – The 2014 Toronto Island Race, presented by the Longboat Roadrunners on Sunday, September 7, 2014, promises to be the most exciting race ever put on by the club.  This year, the prize for the fastest male and female 10K champions is a trip to a running camp in the Kenyan Rift Valley where the world’s fastest elite runners train at altitude.

“We consider ourselves very fortunate this year to be able to give away a trip to a training camp in the Rift Valley,” says Island Race Director Lynn Bourque.  “This prize will be awarded to the first Canadian male and female finishers who also meet the qualifying standard of sub 32 minutes (male) and sub 36 minutes (female). This very generous prize is being donated by our premier race sponsor Quartet Service Inc.

“Runners are welcome to stay at the training facility for 2 to 6 weeks,” says Robert Bracey, President of Quartet Service Inc.  “For those gearing up for the season in 2015, this will be long enough to get the high altitude training effect.”

Longboat Roadrunners and Quartet Service  Inc. share a commitment to encouraging and supporting excellence in Canadian running. We hope that the opportunity to train in the Rift Valley will assist the winners of this prize in reaching their racing goals.

About The Longboat Toronto Island Run

The Longboat Toronto Island Run is Toronto’s oldest 10 k race, this year celebrating 34 years. It is consistently a sell out with a race cap of 1800.  It is very popular with local and out-of-town families because of the various race formats offered: 10 k and 5k distances for adult racers, up to 200 children in the 1K Fun Run and the Quartet Family 5K relay event.

In addition to the variety of races, registered participants are provided with a great post race BBQ. The beautiful park setting of the race makes it the perfect spot for a picnic, without the hassle of having to do any of the work.  Registration also includes finishing medals, a collector’s item- artist designed long sleeved shirt, ferry ticket to the island, prize give-aways, age group awards and cash for the winners in the adult race categories.
