RobReid

Rob was born in Toronto, and moved to Calgary in 1979. In the 1980s he won the Calgary Marathon four times. Since then he has been involved in the running community in many ways. In 1982 he started The Tech Shop, a running specialty store in Calgary, and in 1983, opened another store in Edmonton. He was instrumental in adding Road Running to the mandate of Alberta Track and Field. In 1988 he moved to Victoria and joined the Victoria Marathon Society and opened a specialty running store with Peter Butler. In 1994, Rob started Frontrunners Footwear, and has expanded to several stores on Vancouver Island today.

In 1996 he founded Runners of Compassion, to raise money for Tibetan refugees, local breakfast programs, women's shelters, and shoes for youth. He has been a volunteer on the YMCA Board, the Telus Community Board, Community Council and the United Way Cabinet.

He became race director of the Victoria Marathon in 1994, and was on the Commonwealth Games marathon event board. The Royal Victoria Marathon has grown from 1000 to 12,000 in the last twenty years and is the largest participatory event for Vancouver Island.
